"Child slavery is a crime
against humanity.
Humanity itself is at
stake here."
-Kailash Satyarthi
The cruel reality is, children are forced to work in mines, fields, and factories, day in and day out. Many of these children over the past 200 years did not get to see a ray of hope in their lives, but thanks to activists like Kailash Satyarthi, the future is brighter for over 80,000 children and counting. Beginning in the early 1800s, the Industrial Revolution marked the start of a horrendous trend of child labor for kids all over the world. One of the places most affected by this change of lifestyle was India, where there was a huge gap between the rich minority and the poor majority. Many parents were forced to send their children into the forced labor field because they could not provide for their families. Fortunately, there were people such as Kailash Satyarthi who were able to recognize the unbalance in the lives of many. He devoted his life to the child labor movement and creating major change in society. The primary question at hand is, to what extent did Kailash Satyarthi have an effect on the child rights movement? Although child labor is still an existent issue today, Kailash Satyarthi and his coworkers have been able to decrease the number of kids in the forced labor industry, while increasing the global awareness of this ongoing issue.
